Adopt five kids? Let’s ask Jim-Jim how he feels about that!Posted by Kara on December 31st, 2009
Jim-Jim is an only child. We don’t have any immediate plans to remedy that. Unless someone volunteers to pay our daycare bill, then we’ll start the baby-making process pronto! Did I just hear Jim scream “Woohoo!” from the other room?
We rarely get to observe Jim-Jim (left) interact with other kids. He got to hang out with his cousin, A (right), this Christmas.
And his cousins C, M, J, and E, as well. That’s five cousins! Five of the sweetest, most beautiful cousins.
And did I mention they are rambunctious? Sorry, my bad. They are rambunctious! What kid wouldn’t be while on vacation at Christmas-time all hopped up on fudge and cocoa?
Jim-Jim didn’t quite know how to handle going from being an only child to one of six kids. His five cousins have learned to politely share and expected him to as well. The longer we stayed, the more protective he got of his stuff. And by his stuff, I mean everything because in his 18-month-old mind, everything is his! He repeatedly got overwhelmed, and I had to take him to the bedroom, just he and I, so he could recenter himself. During one of these decompression time-outs, Jim-Jim cracked the door, peeked out, and slammed it closed when one of his cousins caught his eye. Over and over and over.
Such an example of his only-childness! The boy didn’t realize the other kids would think this was a cool game, inching closer every time he cracked the door until they over-took the room. The boy needs a sibling to teach him how this world works! Any takers on that daycare bill?
